February 17, 2021 – Virtual Visit: As part of the plan to introduce the students of the Information Sciences Department to the nature of the work in the governmental sectors, the Information Sciences Department organized a virtual visit to the General Authority for Civil Information in which several projects were implemented by the Authority including their electronic services and applications.
February 10, 2021 – TechTalks: The Department of Information Sciences at the College of Life Sciences has organized a seminar titled "Coded Foundation's Efforts in the Face of the Pandemic", delivered by the Co-Founder and CEO of The Coded Academy, Eng. Ahmed Marifi. The Coded Foundation has developed a social media application named “Salem” available in the Apple app and Google Play. The goal of this application is to prevent rumors that is spread of rumors on social media since the beginning of the pandemic. This application shares trusted news sources from Kuwait regarding the number of cases per day as well as providing psychological counselling to frontline workers for more than 300 people. There was a future proposal to organize a hackathon event to encourage the use of their skills to find solutions for the issues faced in Kuwait. Dr. Zainab Al-Meraj, coordinator of the Social Committee in the Department of Information Science, has shown the importance of information enrichment and digital knowledge for students. Dr. Dhari Al-Huwail has appreciated the governmental institutions for offering field training opportunities and supporting academic events and future collaborations with Kuwait University.
February 3, 2021 – ISC Advising Day: The Department of Information Science has organized an academic advising day for the students in the Department for the first semester of the academic year of 2020/2021. The academic advising session was led by Dr. Ranya Al-Awadhi and Dr. Lulwah Al-Sumait . The topics discussed in this event are how to put a graduate profile together, suggested subjects for the upcoming semester, suggested subjects for the upcoming semester, and general student advising.
December 27, 2020 – Promotion: Congratulate to Dr. Dhari Alhuwail for his promotion to the rank of Associate Professor.
December 27, 2020 – First Graduate of the MSCIS Program: Congratulation to Ms Alya Almutairi for obtaining officially the master degree in computing information systems (MSCIS). Her track was Information Systems Development. As part of her thesis, she developed a software system to help managing project risks.
Alya joined the program among the first batch of students in January 2018. She officially started her thesis work in January 2019, submitted her thesis in 12 June 2020, and defended it in 23 September 2020.
December 21, 2020 – Workshop | Systematic Reviews: As part of the MSIT 505 course, Dr. Dari Alhuwail invited Dr. Alaa Abd-Alrazaq from Hamad Bin Khalifa University for an online interactive workshop on systematic reviews. The workshop was attended by graduate students and faculty members.
Abstract: A systematic review is defined as a review of all evidence that meets predefined eligibility criteria to get an informative answer to a particular research question. Systematic reviews are considered, in general, very strong evidence that placed at the top of the hierarchy of evidence. In this session, the difference between systematic and reviews literature reviews will be explained. Then, we will elaborate steps of conducting systematic reviews starting from the review question tell reporting the findings.
December 2, 2020 – ISC Orientation Day: The Department of Information Science at the College of Life Sciences held an orientation meeting for the new students admitted to the Department. The general supervisor of student counseling in the department, Dr. Ranya Al-Awadhi, Dr. Lolwah Al-Sumait, and Dr. Zainab Al-Meraj, members of the Department's Student Advising committee, participated in the meeting, where the Information Science major was introduced and the important matters in university study and college life were highlighted.
